Life is not always easy. We all go through ups and downs and some expereince more downs than ups. For myself, I feel so blessed and grateful to expereince the life I have each and every day. My mindset was not always like that though and many expereinces have re-shaped how I view things. Let me explain further how affirmations changed my life.
Why I Use Positive Affirmations Every Day
Thinking positive thoughts every day will allow you to live a more positive life. It’s easy to be overcome by negative thoughts and experiences, and it’s important to create a positive dialogue with yourself to get you through those tough times.
Some people call these thoughts positive self talk, and this form of inner dialogue can allow you to reach new heights as a person, overcoming all that stands in your way. And I have had situations that have stood in my way.
When I was 29 years old, I was diagnosed with lymphoma. We had an 11 month old baby girl and we were devestated. During that same week I also found out I was 5 week pregnant. It was a sad and overwhelming week.
Rather than having a negative attitude, my faith and a positive mindset helped me to put one foot in front of the other. Not only did I give birth to a beautiful healthy baby girl, following months of chemotherapy I was in remission.
No doubt, the whole situation changed me. And that change was a positive one.
Understanding Positive Self Talk
Positive self-talk is the practice of responding to those negative thoughts that creep into your mind throughout the day. You know the thoughts: the ones that have you thinking, “you can’t” instead of “you can,” or “it’s too hard” instead of “you can do it.”
When you replace such negativity with positive thoughts, you can bring about astounding changes in your life and the way you feel about yourself.
For example, when I was battling cancer and raising two young children my mind would occasional wander and my thoughts would go to a negative mindset “you won’t beat this or your baby won’t survive”. I knew I needed to stop this dialogue in its tracks.
Instead of letting my mind go on and on, envisioning one unhappy ending after another (death, disability, etc), I responded with positive thoughts and prayers. These positive thoughts can also be called positive affirmations.
How Affirmations Changed My Life and How They Can Change Yours
It can take a lot of practice to make the change to positive self-talk when you’ve always experienced negative self-talk. Perhaps you can’t even remember a time when this negative dialogue wasn’t playing in the background of your life.
